Brian Cockburn

Brian Cockburn is a Senior Lecturer at The University of the West Indies since 1997, specializing in Biochemistry for various science disciplines including pharmacy, human nutrition, and medical sciences. Brian has also served as the Head of the Department of Life Sciences from 2006 to 2009 and acted as the Public Orator from November 2013 to August 2017. Prior to this, Brian conducted biochemical and physiological research as a Research Fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, focusing on glucose and fat metabolism, and performed molecular biology techniques as a Research Assistant at Roche in Switzerland. Brian holds degrees from the University of the West Indies, where education was pursued from 1984 to 1994, along with GCE Ordinary Levels obtained at Presentation College in Trinidad and training at Jackson Lab in Maine between 1996 and 1997.
