Maria Nguyen has had a successful career in research and development. Maria began their journey in 2009 as an Undergraduate Student Researcher in the Dr. Julie Greenwood Laboratory at Oregon State University. In 2011, they were an HHMI EXROP Intern in the Dr. Joseph Gleeson Laboratory at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The following year, they were an HHMI CAPSTONE Intern in the same laboratory. In 2012, they were an Undergraduate Student Researcher in the Dr. Debbie Mustacich Laboratory at the Linus Pauling Institute. From 2014 to 2019, Maria was a Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD Candidate in the Dr. Dimitri Krainc Laboratory at Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine. Most recently, they have been a Senior Scientist in Research & Development - Drug Discovery at Vanqua Bio.
Maria Nguyen attended Northwestern University from 2013 to 2018, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience. Prior to that, they attended Oregon State University from 2009 to 2013 and earned their Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biophysics, with a minor in Chemistry.

Our unique drug-development approach is designed to overcome longstanding challenges in the neuroscience field by capitalizing on the power of human genetics to identify genes that cause or increase the risk of neurodegenerative disease. We leverage novel, proprietary research tools and in vitro modeling of disease, based on patient-derived neuronal cells, to develop transformative therapies that slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease (PD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Gaucher disease (GD).
