Sigbjørn Birkeland has extensive work experience in the oil and gas industry. Sigbjørn started their career in 1997 as a Field Instrument Engineer at Sørco, where they worked on the Eldfisk Modification Project. From 1998 to 2003, Sigbjørn worked as a Subsea Control System Engineer at ABB OFFSHORE SYSTEMS AS, where they acted as a lead for the Control System group within the Aftermarket division. In 2003, they joined GE Energy as a Subsea Control System Engineer and later became the Lead Engineer in the Subsea Control System within the Snøhvit Project EPC Team. In 2006, Sigbjørn moved to Shell, where they held various roles including Subsea Control System Engineer, Principal Subsea System Engineer, Subsea Control & Distribution Lead, SURF Front End Delivery Lead, Team Lead ICE (Instrument, Control and Electro), and Team Lead MICE (Mechanical, Instrument, Control and Electro). Sigbjørn was seconded to a role as Study Lead for a contractor developing a Standalone concept for Linnorm field development. Currently, Sigbjørn works at Vår Energi as the Subsea Engineering Lead.
Sigbjørn Birkeland attended the University of Stavanger from 1991 to 1997, where they earned an MSc and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Cybernetic.
