Shirley Halperin has worked as a music journalist for over two decades. Shirley began their career at Wenner Media, where they were the entertainment editor for Rolling Stone from 2002 to 2006. Shirley then moved to Time Inc. and was a senior writer at Entertainment Weekly from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, they joined the Los Angeles Times as a blogger and left the following year to join Billboard as their news director. In 2014, they were promoted to executive editor of music at Variety.

Shirley Halperin graduated from Rutgers University.
