Jacob Kang-Brown is a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Research Associate at the Vera Institute of Justice since January 2013, focusing on various projects related to sentencing, corrections, and social justice, including hate crime analysis, segregation reduction, and policing initiatives. Previously, Jacob served as a Research Associate from 2013 to 2016, contributing to projects aimed at examining incarceration trends and developing community-based services for justice-involved youth. Jacob earned a Ph.D. in Criminology, Law & Society from the University of California, Irvine, where dissertation research focused on hate crime and racial regulation. Additional roles include Intergroup Relations Aid at L.A. County Human Relations Commission and Peace and Security Associate at Physicians for Social Responsibility—Los Angeles. Jacob holds a Master's Degree in Social Ecology and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Urban Studies.
