Raf Jefferson

Vice President, Communications & External Affairs at Vera Institute of Justice

Raf Jefferson has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Starting in 2000, they worked as a Community & Police Relations Program Coordinator at the New York City Anti-Violence Project. From 2002 to 2004, they served as a Public Education Attorney for Lambda Legal. In 2005, they joined SEIU Local 32BJ as a Research Director and stayed until 2010. From 2011 to 2014, Raf worked at McNally Jackson Books as a Publishing Services Manager. They then transitioned to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, where they served as a Managing Director of Communications from 2014 to 2016. Subsequently, Raf became the Managing Director of Communications at the Brennan Center for Justice from 2016 to 2018. Their most recent roles include Vice President of Communications & External Affairs at the Vera Institute of Justice (starting in March 2020) and Managing Director of Communications (May 2019 to February 2020) at the same organization.

Raf Jefferson has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College Massachusetts. They also have a Doctor of Law degree (JD) from Boston College Law School. Additionally, Raf has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing from Columbia University.
