Matthew Philpott

Matthew Philpott is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in high-speed Ethernet firmware and software development, currently serving as Principal Engineer and Architect at VIAVI Solutions since October 2025. Prior to this role, Matthew spent over 24 years at Spirent Communications, where Matthew held the position of Principal Engineer within the Performance Assurance Broadband division. Matthew's career began in software engineering at Spider Systems, where development work included OEM protocol stacks and embedded systems, before transitioning to Nortel Networks and Shiva. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Edinburgh, earned in 1994.
