Christos Gkemisis is a PhD student at VIB since October 2022, focusing on intratumor heterogeneity in cutaneous melanoma liver metastasis under Prof. Jean-Christophe Marine. Gkemisis has gained extensive experience in cell line engineering, functional experiments, multi-plex OPAL stainings, and scRNAseq analysis. Previous roles include a visiting student at Kibur Medical Inc, implementing large-scale in vivo drug screening, and a summer intern in oncology at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies. Additional internships at KU Leuven involved research in autoimmune diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and neutrophil studies, where Gkemisis acquired skills in flow cytometry and single-cell RNA sequencing. An earlier role in the pathology laboratory at the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens involved immunohistochemistry, and initial research at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute focused on neurobiology. Gkemisis holds a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon.
