Jane Yu

Dr Jane Yu (Ze Yan) is a senior research scientist within the Cardiac Physiology and Mechanosensory Biophysics laboratories at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. Dr Yu’s research focuses on the pathological left ventricular hypertrophy in response to pressure overload by mechanic stress, or by a genetic condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Using different transgenic mouse models, Dr Yu’s current research involves investigating the molecular pathways involving left ventricular hypertrophy, including mechanosensitive channels, the gene and protein expression in response to pressure overload.

Dr Yu obtained her degree in medicine and surgery from Jiamusi Medical University in 1982 and then trained as a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology in China. She then moved to Australia in 1991.

In 1998, Dr Yu completed her doctoral studies in cardiac physiology, focusing her attention on neonatal development under Professor Eugene Lumbers within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales. Following this, she secured a highly prestigious fellowship to continue her research in this area at the University of New South Wales. Dr Yu joined Professor Michael Feneley’s laboratory at the Victor Chang Institute in 2005.
