Vimeo is a forward-thinking organization that leverages cutting-edge technologies to solve complex business problems. We seek a highly skilled Principal Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our data infrastructure's scalability, performance, and reliability.

The Principal Data Engineer will design, implement, and optimize our data architecture. This includes working with cloud technologies, optimizing databases, and creating relational data models. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with CloudSQL and Google Spanner, with a strong focus on modernization and leading migrations to advanced database technologies.

What you’ll do:

Design and Implementation:

  • Architect, design, and implement robust data solutions to support various business needs.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive data models, including conceptual, logical, and physical models.
  • Emphasize applying design best practices to ensure efficient, scalable, and maintainable data architectures.

Cloud Technologies:

  • Leverage cloud technologies to ensure the scalability and performance of our data infrastructure.
  • Design and manage cloud-based databases, focusing on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Database Optimization:

  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
  • Implement best practices for database management and ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Continually monitor and refine database performance, ensuring optimal operation and minimal downtime.

Relational Data Modeling:

  • Develop and maintain relational data models to support business applications and analytics.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across all systems.

Modernization and Migration:

  • Lead the modernization of existing data architecture, implementing the latest technologies and methodologies.
  • Plan and execute the migration of databases to Google Spanner or similar advanced database technologies.
  • Ensure a smooth transition, minimizing disruption to business operations and ensuring data integrity and security.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and provide solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction in data architecture projects.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Utilize CloudSQL and Google Spanner for database management and optimization.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in data architecture and cloud technologies.

Skills and knowledge you should possess:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of data architecture experience, focusing on cloud technologies.
    • Proven experience with database optimization and relational data modeling.
    • Experience designing and scaling highly available operational and transactional databases. 
    • Hands-on experience with CloudSQL and Google Spanner is highly preferred.
    • Experience in modernizing data architectures and leading migrations to advanced database technologies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
    • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database performance tuning.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Targeted Base Salary Range:  $135,000 to $205,500

The base salary range listed above is for candidates located in the U.S., including the New York City metro area.
