Valerio Primomo

Research Scientist Vegetable Breeder at Vineland Research

Valerio Primomo is a seasoned Research Scientist specializing in vegetable breeding at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre since 2011, focusing on developing new varieties of sweet potato and greenhouse tomatoes suited to Ontario, employing both traditional breeding methods and modern molecular techniques. Valerio also has experience in securing grants and funding for industry-driven research projects. Prior to this role, Valerio served as a Science Research Specialist at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. from 2005 to 2011, where contributions included molecular breeding in canola, rice, sorghum, and sunflower, as well as the development of soybean SNP markers as a Visiting Scientist. Valerio holds a PhD in Plant Genetics and an MS in Agricultural and Horticultural Plant Breeding from the University of Guelph, along with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from McGill University.
