John Howington

John Howington, MD, MBA, FACS, FCCP, currently holds the position of 2025 President of the CHEST Board of Regents at the American College of Chest Physicians and serves as President Elect and President Designate. As of January 2023, John Howington also works as a Thoracic Surgeon at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Previously, John Howington was Chief of Oncology Services and Medical Director & Co-Chair of the Oncology Service Line at Ascension from January 2018 to December 2022, and Chair of Thoracic Surgery at Saint Thomas Health from April 2016 to December 2022, where John Howington led the Thoracic Surgery Program. Additionally, John Howington served as President of the CHEST Foundation from November 2014 to October 2016 and held various leadership roles in surgery at NorthShore University HealthSystem, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Education includes an Executive Masters of Business Administration from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Tennessee Technological University.
