The Virginia National Guard is a unique dual-status force with a federal mission to provide a combat reserve for the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force to fight our nation’s wars and a state mission to provide a response force answering the call of the Governor when citizens of the commonwealth are in need. More than 9,000 personnel in the Virginia Army National Guard, Virginia Air National Guard and Virginia Defense Force as well as the state and federal civilian workforce serve in more than 50 communities across the state.

The Military Operations Team of the Virginia National Guard orchestrates and oversees various military functions, ensuring readiness and operational effectiveness. This team coordinates intelligence, strategic planning, aviation operations, and combat training, while also managing special operations like space control. Their collective expertise supports both state emergency responses and federal defense missions.
