Sheela Jacob has over 25 years of experience in the science and research field. Sheela began their career in 1995 as a Technical Officer at the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute. In 2003, they moved to the National Institutes of Health as a Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Fellow, where they conducted research in G-Protein Signal Transduction and Cancer Research. In 2010, they joined the University of Maryland School of Medicine as a Research Faculty, where they managed 5 technical staff, trained 8 summer interns, and 2 postdoctoral fellows. Sheela also conducted independent research in a rare genetic disorder, Gaucher disease, disease modeling, drug targeting, and drug screening research done using iPSC derived cells. In 2014, they moved to ATCC as Core Team Lead and R&D Lead, Senior Scientist, where they directed the development and launch of more than 12 iPSC derived cells and media products to support revenue generation. In 2021, they joined Vita Therapeutics as a Principal Scientist.
Sheela Jacob completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry, Drug Design and Molecular Modeling from CSIR - Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in 2002. Prior to this, they obtained their Master's Degree in Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry from Annamalai University. Sheela also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Govt. College for Women, Trivandrum, Kerala. Sheela Jacob also has a PhD from the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology.
