Rami Hamzey

Senior Biomedical Engineer at Vitara Biomedical

Rami Hamzey has a decade of work experience in the biomedical engineering field. From 2021 to present, they have been a Senior Biomedical Engineer at Vitara Biomedical. From 2017 to 2019, they were a Senior Project Engineer at IMSE- The Institute of Musculoskeletal Science & Education, where they led the design and development of orthopedic implant and instrument systems from initial scope through FDA clearance, post-market, product maintenance, and field training activities. From 2019 to 2021, they were a Contract Product Designer for a Philadelphia-based biotech startup, where they developed component specifications and parametric designs for a consumer-level electromechanical device. Rami also collaborated with the chief design and technology officer to incorporate design improvements and design additional sensor-based peripherals while maintaining the overall design aesthetic.

Prior to this, Hamzey was a Mechanical Engineering Student at Boston University from 2014 to 2015. During this time, they were also a Visiting Graduate Student at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, where they developed product design for Project ABBIE auto-injector and electromechanical hardware design. Rami also supported the development of a lower-body exoskeleton by analyzing changes in walking patterns during strenuous activity. In 2015, they were an Intern at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, where they built a 600 square foot mockup of a Mars transit vehicle module and performed a human factors assessment.

From 2014 to 2017, Hamzey was a Research Assistant at Stony Brook University's Rehabilitation Research and Movement Performance (RRAMP) Laboratory. In this role, they moved with the Principle Investigator from Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute to Stony Brook University to help establish the lab in a new facility. From 2012 to 2014, they were a Research Assistant at the Motor Learning Lab at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, where they collaborated with clinicians, research engineers and scientists to explore locomotor system plasticity and gait hemiparesis in people with stroke. In 2011, they were a Hands On Summer Camp Instructor at the California Science Center, where they developed a curriculum for enthusiastic 5th and 6th grade students that demonstrated Newtonian physics and biological principles through activity-based, experiential learning. Finally, from 2009 to 2011, they were a Research Assistant at the USC Biomechanics Research Lab.

Rami Hamzey obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Kinesiology from the University of Southern California between 2006 and 2010. Rami then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics from Boston University between 2014 and 2016.
