Lauren Schoener

Lauren Schoener has a diverse range of work experience spanning various roles and industries. Lauren is currently working as a Machine Learning Engineer at VIZIO since June 2021. Prior to this role, they worked as a Data Science Instructor at Hello World from April 2021 to June 2021.

Lauren also has experience in the aerospace and defense industry. Lauren served as a Test Engineer/Data Analyst at Lockheed Martin from July 2018 to October 2020 and as a Field Engineer from April 2017 to June 2018. Before that, they worked as an Underwater Robotics Engineer at Harris Corporation from November 2016 to April 2017, where they supported Navy mine countermeasures missions.

Furthermore, Lauren has a research background. Lauren worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Virginia Tech from August 2015 to May 2016, where they collaborated with NASA on redesigning and modeling a Mars land rover. Lauren also gained experience as a Lead Facilitator for Virginia Tech STEM Program from August 2013 to May 2014, where they organized and led hands-on STEM projects for elementary and middle school students.

Lauren's work experience also includes roles in the non-profit sector. Lauren served as a Project Lead for the Virginia Tech Chapter of Engineers Without Borders in Quiche Guatemala from January 2013 to January 2016, where they oversaw the successful implementation of a septic tank project for a school in rural Guatemala. Additionally, they were a Technical Resources Intern at Engineers Without Borders USA from May 2014 to August 2014, where they contributed to redesigning their Technical Resources webpage.

In terms of community involvement, Lauren was a Mentor for the Female Engineering Community at Virginia Tech from August 2011 to May 2013, providing tutoring and support to college freshmen women pursuing engineering degrees. Lauren also represented the Virginia Tech Society of Women Engineers (SWE) in the Council for the Advancement of Minority Engineering Organization (CAMEO) from August 2011 to May 2012, where they advocated for diversity in engineering.

Lauren Schoener earned their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, where they studied from 2011 to 2016. In 2020, they attended Galvanize Inc as a Data Science Fellow, completing a program focused on Data Science.
