Paul Geertsema

Paul Geertsema serves as an Associate Professor of Accounting and AI at Vlerick Business School since May 2024 and has been a Founding Board Member of the Artificial Intelligence Researchers Association since May 2021. Previously, Paul held the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance at The University of Auckland from November 2013 to May 2024, teaching courses such as Modern Investment Theory and Financial Machine Learning, while focusing on empirical asset pricing and the application of machine learning in finance. Paul founded and directed North Shore Consulting Ltd, providing expertise in Finance, Data Science, and Machine Learning from November 2011 to January 2024. Academic roles also include lecturing positions at the University of Otago and Massey University. Prior experience in finance includes significant roles at Barclays Capital and Credit Suisse, as well as earlier positions in risk analysis and IT project management. Educational achievements include a PhD in Finance from the University of Auckland and an MBA in Finance from London Business School.
