August Schwer

August Schwer has a diverse and extensive work history spanning several companies and roles.

Starting in 2022, Schwer is the DevOps Engineering Manager at Voltron Data. In this role, they lead a team of 10+ DevOps engineers, collaborates with cross-functional partners, and establishes successful processes to deliver impactful changes.

From 2018 to 2022, Schwer worked at Socure, initially as the Director of DevOps and later as the DevOps Manager. As the Director of DevOps, they led a multi-national team and successfully completed large-scale strategic initiatives. In the role of DevOps Manager, Schwer led a remote team across multiple time zones and was involved in architecting technical solutions and managing large-scale initiatives.

Prior to Socure, Schwer worked at O'Reilly Media from 2016 to 2018 as the Principal System Engineer. August reported to the Director of IT and led cross-department initiatives to address engineering needs and improve work processes.

Before joining O'Reilly Media, Schwer worked at Safari Books Online from 2013 to 2016 as a Senior Systems Engineer. In this role, they designed, built, and maintained systems infrastructure and automated system processes using Chef.

From 2004 to 2013, Schwer worked at Sonic.net as a Senior System Administrator. Here, they implemented hardware failure monitoring, improved customer security, and deployed a Dynamic DNS API.

Furthermore, Schwer held a role at NBLUG from 2004 to 2006, serving as Vice President. August assisted the President in maintaining organized meetings and contributed to the development of bylaws and guidelines for the group. Schwer also presented on Database Administration of the MySQL Database Management System.

During the same period, Schwer also held the position of Vice President at the North Bay Linux Users' Group.

Schwer began their career at Sonoma County Water Agency in 2001 as a Student Intern. August created web page front ends, maintained report generation tools, and administered the Apache web server.

August Schwer attended Sonoma State University from 1997 to 2004, where they obtained a B.S. degree in Computer Science.
