Matthew Gelber

Matt provides M&A and capital raising advice to clients across Waller Helms’ industries of focus and leads the firm’s coverage of private equity firms and financial sponsors.

Matt has enjoyed an over 30-year career in investment banking covering companies in a range of industries across financial services and technology. Prior to joining Waller Helms Advisors in 2023, Matt was the Head of Insurance Investment Banking at Truist Securities, where he led the firm’s efforts in covering insurance distribution, services, carriers and technology. At SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, the predecessor to Truist Securities, Matt held a variety of roles over his twenty plus years at the firm, including Head of Financial Services & Technology Investment Banking, Head of Corporate Banking and Head of Financial Sponsors Coverage. Earlier in his career at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Matt developed sector coverage for insurance, specialty finance, financial technology and enterprise software.

Prior to SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Matt worked at Ladenburg Thalmann & Co. covering the gaming and leisure industries. Matt started his career at Credit Suisse First Boston as part of the Media, Telecommunications and Transportation Group in New York and the regional investment banking team based in Sydney, Australia.

Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia.
