Craig Atkinson started their career in 1993 as a Project Manager at The Field Museum, where they were responsible for various tasks such as artifact transfer and records management. In 1995, they joined Northwestern University as a Project Manager, overseeing construction projects and serving as a liaison to various departments. Craig then joined The Walsh Group in 2000 as the Director of Career Development, where they managed employee development programs. In 2010, they were promoted to Senior Director of Communications, leading proposal teams and managing the communication process. In 2014, they were promoted again to Vice President of Communications and Strategic Services, where they developed a comprehensive marketing and communications program.

Craig Atkinson obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Art and Art History from Illinois State University, where they attended from 1986 to 1991.
