Fabien Expert

Chief Technical Officer (cto) at Wandercraft

Fabien Expert has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Starting in 2007, they worked as a Ride Assistant at PortAventura. In 2008, they completed a technical training period at Emulsar, where they designed the electronics of a tensiometer for emulsion analysis. Fabien then had a training period at the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) in 2009, where they developed a particle counter based on infrared light diffraction. In the same year, they also started their Ph.D. in bio-inspired robotics at Aix-Marseille University, focusing on the development and characterization of optic flow sensors. During their Ph.D., they also worked as a postdoc robotician at the Insitut des Sciences du Mouvement, where they modeled and simulated a quadrotor and worked on the mechanical design of a prototype.

In 2010, Fabien Expert took on teaching activities at Aix-Marseille University, which lasted until 2012. Fabien then joined Insitut des Sciences du Mouvement again in 2014, this time as an Engineer in the Research and Development Mechatronics department. During this period, they participated in the electrical and computing development of a lower limb robotized exoskeleton.

In 2016, Fabien became the Head of the hardware platform at Wandercraft, a company specializing in exoskeletons. Fabien was responsible for the complete development of the electronic hardware for the exoskeleton and ensured compliance with medical norms for electrical safety. Fabien also served as a software project leader for the development of the graphical interface.

In 2018, Fabien was promoted to Director of the Embedded Systems department at Wandercraft, where they were responsible for the full development of the exoskeleton's electronic hardware. Fabien designed electronic boards, batteries, and robot wiring. Fabien also designed specific test benches for validation and production.

In 2019, they transitioned to the role of Director of the Mechatronics department at Wandercraft, where they managed three teams and was in charge of the department's roadmap and budget. Fabien oversaw the development of the exoskeleton's electronic and mechanical hardware.

Fabien Expert's most recent role at Wandercraft is Chief Technical and Regulatory Officer, starting in 2023. Fabien is a member of the executive committee and is responsible for technical development, quality, and regulatory strategy. Fabien manages four technical teams and the RAQA team and is in charge of the technical roadmap and budget aligned with the company's objectives.

In addition to their work at Wandercraft, Fabien Expert also became a partner at Time for the Planet in 2022.

Fabien Expert holds a Ph.D. in bionspired robotics from Ecole doctorale des sciences du Mouvement Humain (EDSMH), which they obtained between 2009 and 2013. Prior to that, they completed an Engineer's degree in Automatics and Electronics at Institut national des Sciences appliquées de Toulouse from 2004 to 2009. In 2008, they also participated in a semester study abroad program at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA, where they studied Robotics, Biomedical electronics, System theory, and Automatics.
