Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Stephen most recently worked at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) as Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, a position they have held since January 2022. Prior to that, they served as Senior Counsel II at WMATA from September 2016 to January 2022.

Before joining WMATA, Stephen held leadership roles at Atos, where they served as the Head of Legal, North America from September 2015 to September 2016, and as a Senior Legal Counsel from October 2013 to September 2015.

Their earlier legal experience includes working as an Attorney at Arent Fox from August 2011 to October 2013 and at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP from August 2008 to August 2011.

Stephen also gained valuable experience outside the legal field. Stephen worked as a Project Manager at InfluenceMedia from August 2003 to June 2005, at HealthStream from August 2002 to August 2003, and at Digital Dog Inc from May 2001 to August 2002.

Additionally, Stephen worked at Heller Ehrman LLP as a Summer Associate in 2007 and at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP as a Summer Associate in 2006.

Early in their career, they worked as a Senior Software Trainer at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers from October 1999 to May 2001.

Stephen Thompson holds a Juris Doctor degree in Law from Georgetown University Law Center. Stephen also obtained a Master of Theological Studies in Ethics from Emory University. Additionally, they hold a Master of Arts degree in Humanities and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies, both from Western Kentucky University. Stephen Thompson has several certifications, including Certified Internet Web Professional (CIW) and CompTIA Network+, obtained in 2001. Stephen is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional - CIPP/US, certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
