Interim Vice Chancellor for Research & Interim Associate Dean for Research at the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis

Mark Lowe is the Interim Vice Chancellor for Research & Interim Associate Dean for Research at the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to their current role, Mark served as the Division Head and then Vice President of Washington Gas, a natural gas utility company serving over one million customers in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

Mark began their career at Washington Gas in November 2004 as Division Head. In this role, they co-created the Asset Optimization program, which increased gross margins from $6M to $40M per year. Mark also developed and implemented gas supply facility upgrade programs to enhance reliability, capacity and safety. In October 2014, they were promoted to Vice President.

As Vice President of Gas Supply and Engineering, Mark led a staff of 225 professional and field personnel. The Gas Supply team was responsible for planning and procuring 190 Bcf per year of system gas supply, successfully managing an asset management program that traded over 500 Bcf per year, operating and maintaining over 40 gate stations, 500 district regulator stations, two peak shaving facilities, one underground storage facility and gas control operations. The Corporate Engineering team oversaw design, construction, maintenance and compliance of over 200 miles of transmission and 500 miles of high-pressure distribution facilities, as well as all upgrades and new gas supply facilities. Mark was also responsible for management of all corporate environmental compliance and mitigation of legacy manufactured gas plant sites.

Mark Lowe has a MBA from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School and a BS in Geological Engineering from SD School of Mines & Technology. Mark is also certified as a Professional Civil Engineer from the State of California.
