What is the opportunity? 

Water Mission Uganda has two focus regions in Uganda: Luuka District and surrounding areas, and refugee zones in northern Uganda (West Nile). Under the direction of the Project Accountant, the Accounts Assistant is responsible for collaborating with the organization’s partners in the field, West- Nile regarding financial accountabilities and payments.

This full-time, fixed term contract position requires that the person resides in Yumbe with frequent travel within the Water Mission Humanitarian Response Program areas (Rhino Camp, Imvepi, and Bidibidi). As an employee of Water Mission, the Accounts Assistant is responsible for developing a biblical worldview culture that leads to God-honoring excellence in all work and reinforces the following: Real time professional due care and financial services support to other departments in line with Water Mission’s mission, vision, values, and standards.

A successful Accounts Assistant will:

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Collect and review all staff accountabilities and vendor payments.

  • Review staff requests and accountabilities for accuracy and completeness before forwarding them for payment.

  • Recording and filing cash transactions.

  • Post transactions on the Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) accounting software.

  • Manage petty cash at the field offices.

  • Offer support in offering all the necessary documentation during the financial verification exercises and audits.

  • Stamp all vouchers with the “PAID” stamp upon review.

  • Maintain strong compliance of the organizational and ministry mission and values

Education Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting.
  • CPA level 1
