Spike Brehm

Spike Brehm has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering. Spike currently holds the position of Software Engineer at Watershed since September 2020. Previously, they worked at Airbnb for nearly a decade, starting as a Sr. Staff Software Engineer from May 2011 to July 2017. During this time, they were involved in building rich JavaScript apps with React, Node.js, Rails, and mobile infrastructure with React Native. Later, they transitioned to the role of Engineering Lead, R&D from July 2017 to February 2020, where they focused on finding, researching, and prototyping new things utilizing emerging technologies for Airbnb, heading a small multidisciplinary product and engineering group. Spike also briefly served as a Senior Software Engineer at SunRun from July 2009 to May 2011, where they led the front-end development and worked on building sophisticated web apps using PHP and JavaScript. Additionally, they worked as an Engineering Advisor at Medium.com from March 2015 to February 2017 and as a Research Assistant at Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University from April 2009 to July 2009.

Spike Brehm attended Duke University from 2005 to 2009, where they pursued a BSE in Civil & Environmental Engineering. In 2007, they also briefly studied at the University of Cape Town, although specific degree and field of study information for this period is not provided.
