POSITION OVERVIEW:

WayFinder is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Operations intern to join our team in Chicago. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of logistics and supply chain management. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern will have the chance to contribute to real projects and initiatives while developing valuable skills and industry knowledge.

This paid internship position is intended for students who are available for an academic or summer term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs. Interns are paid hourly and may be eligible for academic credit, depending on their institution’s guidelines. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist in the coordination of transportation logistics, including route planning, carrier selection, and shipment tracking.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline supply chain processes and identify areas for improvement.

  • Analyze data related to transportation costs and operational efficiency to provide actionable insights.

  • Contribute to the development of reports and presentations.

  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance understanding of logistics principles and industry trends.

  • Track active WayFinder shipments to ensure smooth transit and delivery of loads.

  • Conduct business over the phone with dispatchers and other outside logistics professionals.

  • Inquire about driver ETAs, reporting any delays or other issues to account management teams.

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met in accordance with company standards.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manipulate data within Salesforce and other online platforms.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively over the phone, through online communications software, and in a team environment.

  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and quality of work.

  • Proactive attitude and willingness to multitask and take initiative in a dynamic work environment.

  • Previous internship or coursework related to logistics and supply chain management is a plus, but not required.

  • Positive disposition and ability to self-motivate and self-manage.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Desire to learn and develop new skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Current enrollment in a degree program is strongly preferred.

  • Candidates studying or with a background in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field may be given special consideration. Those without such a background may be considered based on business needs and HR forecasting.

  • A blend of education and applied work experience may be considered.

WORKPLACE & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work-from-Office (WFO) at our Chicago River North location is required for all of our interns for learning and development purposes.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer is necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to lift and transport a work laptop and other computer equipment.
