Guimel DeCarvalho has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Currently, they serve as a Commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, where they advocate for women's rights and equality. Prior to that, they held leadership positions at Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, overseeing the People and Culture Department and leading diversity and inclusion initiatives. They also worked as a Program Director for the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, managing budgets and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders. Additionally, Guimel has volunteered and been involved in professional activities. Notably, they have experience in the field of social work, having worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and the Optimum Performance Institute. At these organizations, they provided support to children and families in need and taught independent living skills. They also gained experience in education while serving as a Pupil Personnel Services Intern at Vista Middle School.

Guimel DeCarvalho has a strong educational background with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from UCLA, which was obtained from 2007 to 2009. During this time, Guimel focused on Public Child Welfare, School Social Work, and Mental Health. Prior to pursuing their MSW, Guimel completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology at the City University of New York-Hunter College from 2002 to 2006.

In addition to their academic degrees, Guimel also holds various certifications. These include a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, obtained in May 2021. Guimel also earned the SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from SHRM in January 2021. Furthermore, they obtained the SHRM-CP certification from SHRM in December 2016. Guimel is also a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work in January 2015. Additionally, they hold a license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from the Board Of Behavioral Sciences, obtained in October 2014. Lastly, Guimel obtained a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing in June 2009.
