Justin Boylan-Toomey

Justin Boylan-Toomey is an experienced machine learning engineer currently serving as the Lead Machine Learning Engineer at the Wellcome Trust since March 2022. In this role, Justin oversees the Machine Learning Engineering team, focusing on developing models and metrics to assess the impact of the foundation's medical research funding. Previously, Justin worked as a Senior Data Scientist in the UK Civil Service from May 2020 to March 2022 and as the Lead Data Scientist at Sword Group from July 2016 to May 2020, where leadership of a data science team was a key responsibility. Justin also has experience as a Data Scientist and Data Manager at Sword Group, as well as an application support role. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Data Science from Birkbeck, University of London and a Bachelor's degree in Geology and Petroleum Geology from the University of Aberdeen.
