 Ventilation Engineer

Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the successful candidate is responsible for all aspects of mining ventilation including short and long term planning. The Ventilation Engineer will work with mining operations to support safe work practices and achievement of production targets.  This position is preferred on a 5 days on, two days off rotation.

The focus of this role will include:

  • Ensure underground mining activities are conducted in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario) and Regulations and environmental standards
  • Comply with all safety requirements and observes all company policies and procedures
  • Develop ventilation plans and models in compliance with all required standards including safety, environmental and legislative
  • Complete reports and documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with other departments
  • Conducts ventilation surveys using standard equipment and methods to ensure proper quantities of fresh air is supplied to active mine headings.
  • Survey the condition of fans and ventilation bulkheads and cooperate with mine operations to complete repairs as required
  • Prepare drawings for the mine ventilation systems
  • Model and design the ventilation system in conjunction with the mine planners.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgeting with estimates of ventilation equipment.
  • Update the ventilation prints
  • Prepare and update the emergency egress plans
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in mining engineering (PEng an asset)

  • Solid knowledge of underground mine design as well as the technical processes related to planning and scheduling

  • Effective project management and communication skills

  • Proven ability with safe work processes

  • Solid knowledge of underground mine design as well as the technical processes related to planning and scheduling

  • Experience with VentSIM modeling software

  • Experience with Deswik Suite

  • Experience with Microsoft office software

  • Common core training

  • At least 5 years of experience in underground mining operations and 3 years in a similar role
