Christen Foell

Director, Gaede Institute For The Liberal Arts at Westmont College

Christen Foell has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. Christen began their career in 2001 as a Volunteer Coordinator at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where they recruited, trained, and managed a team of over 300 volunteers. Christen also implemented a volunteer-driven Information and Referral program and coordinated logistics for special events.

In 2005, Christen joined the Special Olympics Southern California as a Volunteer Coordinator. Christen successfully recruited volunteers from various organizations, resulting in a significant increase in registered volunteers. Christen also streamlined volunteer management processes and ensured the smooth staffing of special events and athletic competitions.

From 2006 to 2014, Christen worked at The Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation. As a Program Coordinator, they managed a federally funded grant that provided financial support to college students engaged in community service through the New Jersey Bonner AmeriCorps Program. Christen also designed and implemented professional development opportunities for corps members and monitored the program budget. Later, as a Program Director, they managed three national service programs that engaged over 1,000 college students and community members in direct service and capacity-building roles with nonprofit and government agencies across more than 20 states.

Since 2014, Christen has been involved with Westmont College as part of the Gaede Institute for the Liberal Arts. Christen began as an Assistant Director, where they oversaw the Liberal Arts Ambassadors Program, recruiting, training, and supervising Westmont students serving as mentors and tutors for high school students in need. In 2019, they were promoted to Associate Director and in 2022 to Director of the Gaede Institute for the Liberal Arts.

Overall, Christen Foell has a strong background in volunteer coordination, program management, and leadership development within educational and non-profit settings.

Christen Foell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish from Westmont College from 1997 to 2001. Christen then went on to complete a Master of Public Administration in Public Administration from Seton Hall University from 2003 to 2005.
