Dr. Stefan Nykamp

Dr. Stefan Nykamp has a diverse and extensive work experience. Dr. Stefan currently holds the position of Prokurist and Leiter Spezialservice Gas (Authorized Officer and Head of Special Services Gasassets) at Westnetz GmbH, a role they have held since October 2021. In 2020, they served as a DENA SET Hub Advisory Board Member at Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena), where they contributed to the support and development of innovative business models and solutions for the energy transition.

From November 2020 to September 2021, Dr. Nykamp was the Head of Grid Economics at E.ON, responsible for overseeing netzwirtschaft (grid economics) at the company. Prior to that, they held the position of Head of Strategic Grid Economics/ Grid Fees at innogy SE from July 2018 to October 2020.

Before their time at E.ON and innogy SE, Dr. Nykamp worked at Westnetz GmbH, where they held various roles. Dr. Stefan served as the Head of Innovationmanagement from January 2016 to June 2018, and was responsible for the development of new units focused on digitization and technology. Dr. Stefan also served as the Head of "Opex", NWoW programme, NWoW@Westnetz from January 2015 to December 2015, and as the Head of Technology Centre - Grid Storage from March 2014 to December 2015. Additionally, they held the role of Team leader network planning from August 2010 to June 2014 at Westnetz GmbH.

Throughout their career, Dr. Nykamp also worked as a PhD-Student at the University of Twente from November 2010 to October 2013. Their research focused on smart grids, regulation of grids, integration of renewable energy systems, and the introduction and integration of storage. Dr. Stefan also served as a guest lecturer on investment decisions in energy markets. Prior to that, they worked as a Project Engineer at RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems AG from 2007 to 2010.

Dr. Stefan Nykamp has a diverse education history in the field of energy economics and techniques. Dr. Stefan obtained their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen from Berufsakademie Emsland in 2007. Moving forward, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Energy Economics from both RWTH Aachen University and the University of Münster from 2008 to 2010. Following their master's degree, Dr. Nykamp furthered their academic journey by completing a Ph.D. at the University of Twente from 2010 to 2013, specializing in Energy Economics and Techniques.
