Part-time Fill-in Host at WGCU Public Media

Willis Kern is a seasoned media professional with extensive experience in public radio and broadcasting. Currently serving as a part-time fill-in host for WGCU Public Media since January 2022, Kern previously held the position of interim local host for NPR's Morning Edition at WFYI Public Media from November 2022 to February 2023. Earlier roles include hosting and serving as special correspondent at WGLT from August 2017 to December 2021, as well as managing the news department at Illinois State University from June 1993 to May 2017. Kern's career began at WAKC-AM as the News/Sports/Farm Director from June 1975 to April 1977, followed by over 16 years at WJBC-AM in various capacities, including full-time evening host and sports talk host. Educational qualifications include a BS in Mass Communication from Illinois State University and training from the Brown Institute School of Broadcasting.
