Position: Global Logistics Specialist

Shift: Evening/Night Shift

Department: Supply Chain Management 

Location: Andheri, Mumbai, India

Reports to: Global Logistics Manager

Purpose:

The Global Logistics Specialist is coordinating and monitoring flow of goods for international projects in all regions of the world on all modes of transport inbound, outbound, and cross trade. The company operates in a project environment which will require the Global Logistics Specialist to plan, evaluate, price, and execute all shipping in accordance with the project schedule and applicable customs regulations and will also support pre-contract logistics queries. This role will be working the same hours as the head office in Canada.

This position is a one-year contract position with possibility of extension into full-time position with the person working in a shared office with other employees based in India as part of satellite supply chain team in India supporting all regions of the world.

Essential Responsibilities:

Shipment Handling:

  • Handle shipments on all modes of transport internationally, domestically, and cross trade (ocean, air, courier, and trucking) for all regions.
  • Support sales or estimating team with quotes and logistics information as requested.
  • Issue shipping and customs documentation in compliance with sale contracts, letters of credit requirements and with consideration of applicable customs regulations.
  • Carry out competitive bidding RFP per project with appropriate carriers and/or logistics service providers incl. rate negotiations.
  • Freight PO generation and/or freight invoice review and approvals for all shipments handled.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with logistics service providers and onboard new providers.
  • Liaise regularly with project stakeholders including but not limited to project managers, buyers, engineers, and end-customers.
  • Elect best suitable routing and troubleshoot in-transit shipment delays.
  • Collaborate with local government offices, chamber of commerce and banks as needed.
  • Provide support to entire logistics team and provide vacation back up when other team members are absent.
  • Handle LC bank presentations including discrepancy corrections independently and remotely.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, track and trace shipment summaries for all projects on a weekly basis.
  • Receive goods as shipped and freight POs as service rendered.
  • Support manager in freight spend and master RFQ bid analysis.
  • Follow global logistics processes and procedures as outlined by head office in Canada.

Customs Formalities:

  • Assess applicability and utilize free trade agreements where suitable.

  • Liaise with and supply information to customs brokers for customs clearance.

  • Comply with record keeping requirements as per prevailing customs regulations.

  • Handle import / export customs formalities through customs brokers and as needed with regulatory bodies globally.

  • Handle HS code classifications for new items.

  • Handle cargo pre-inspections for destinations that require such and arrange for legalization, certification of documentation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Postsecondary certificate or diploma or bachelor’s degree in in related field or equivalent combination of continuing education and work experience (e.g. SCMP, CIFFA, CITT)

  • Must have 3-5 years of export ocean (FCL/LCL) and air (conventional and courier) shipment handling experience globally in a manufacturing or project environment, customs compliance knowledge is a significant asset along with ability to research customs requirements.

  • Good command of the English language both spoken and in writing

  • Must have advanced experience working in Microsoft Excel and MS Office in general.

  • Must have the ability to gather and work with data from multiple sources independently.

  • Must have fundamental understanding of customs formalities, HS codes, Country of origin determination, valuation of cargo.

  • Must be Proficient in Incoterms 2020 and how to apply and ship in accordance with them.

  • Experience with D365 ERP or alternate ERP software is a strong asset.

  • Experience with Power BI reports is a strong asset.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills required.

  • Exposure to dangerous goods shipping is an asset.

  • Exposure to courier shipping (e.g. FedEx / UPS / DHL) is an asset.

  • Handling letter of credit shipments and/or bank presentations is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Descartes, Migras Export Guide and like programs is an asset.
