Clinical Scientist, Biomedical HIV Prevention Lead at Whitman-Walker Health

Rupa R. Patel began their work experience as a Physician at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in 2007. Rupa R. later served as a Hospitalist Physician at CHRISTUS St. Vincent from 2012 to 2013. Following this, they worked at Washington University in St. Louis as an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and the Founder/Director of the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV Prevention Program from 2013 to 2022. Currently, they hold the position of Clinical Scientist and Biomedical HIV Prevention Lead at Whitman-Walker Health since 2022.

Rupa R. Patel completed their Bachelor's degree in Economics at the University of Michigan from 1996-2000. Rupa R. then went on to earn their Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine from 2000-2004. Following that, they completed their Internal Medicine Residency at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School from 2004-2007. Rupa R. then pursued an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from 2008-2010. Lastly, they obtained their Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2011-2012.
