Chris Hamley

Program Manager / Chief Of Party (usaid) - Okapi Wildlife Reserve at Wildlife Conservation Society

Chris Hamley has a strong background in wildlife conservation and environmental protection. Chris started their career as a Biodiversity Intern, assisting with research and monitoring projects in tropical forests. Chris then worked as a Research, Inventory, and Monitoring Intern, helping with conservation management and biodiversity monitoring in protected areas. Chris also served as an Ecology Field Assistant and a Volunteer, gaining experience in ecological research and protected area management planning.

Chris later took on roles at organizations such as Pro-Natura International, CERCOPAN, and The IDL Group, where they focused on activities such as project development, technical reporting, and community liaison in various conservation projects.

Since 2013, Chris has been with the Wildlife Conservation Society, first as a Monitoring and GIS Coordinator, conducting ecological research and monitoring activities in conflict-affected areas. Chris then served as the Northern Plains Landscape Technical Advisor, providing technical advice and support for protecting threatened wildlife populations. Chris also held positions as a Senior Campaigner and Deputy Campaign Lead at the Environmental Investigation Agency, managing campaigns to address the global trafficking of pangolins, involvement of transnational criminal networks, and legal domestic pangolin medicine market in China.

Currently, Chris is working as a Program Manager and Chief of Party for the Okapi Wildlife Reserve project, funded by USAID, at the Wildlife Conservation Society. In this role, they are responsible for overseeing the program and ensuring the effective implementation of conservation strategies.

Overall, Chris Hamley has extensive experience in wildlife conservation, research, project management, advocacy, and collaboration with stakeholders to protect biodiversity and combat environmental threats.

Chris Hamley attended the University of Leicester from 2003 to 2006, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors (BSc Hons) in Geography. Chris then continued their education at the Royal Agricultural University from 2006 to 2008, where they completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Rural Development with a specialization in Natural Resource Management. In addition to their academic qualifications, they obtained the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care from Qualsafe Awards in July 2017.
