Heena Mistry, Ph.D., has a diverse and extensive work experience. Heena is currently the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Wilfrid Laurier University, where they are responsible for overseeing initiatives related to EDI. Prior to this role, they served as the Manager of EDI Training, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives at the same institution. Heena has also worked as an Instructor, teaching a first-year undergraduate history course at Laurier Brantford. In addition, Heena has experience as an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Training Specialist, where they developed workshops and courses to promote equity and inclusion in teaching and research.
Outside of academia, Heena co-created and organized the Breezy Breakfast Radio Hour podcast, which focused on Guelph politics and the local community. Heena has also worked at Queen's University as a Research Associate, Adjunct Professor, Special Projects Intern, and Ph.D. Candidate. Heena'sresearch has focused on the relationship between India and the global Indian diaspora. As a Teaching Fellow, they designed and taught a seminar course on global migration history.
Heena has also been involved in political campaigns, serving as a Social Media Coordinator for the Guelph New Democratic Party. Heena has interned at Harvard University as a Weatherhead Initiative on Global History Visiting Fellow and has worked as a Managing Editor at Synergies Canada. Additionally, they have worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Guelph, conducting archival research and co-authoring a publication on the history of aquariums.
Earlier in their career, Heena worked as an Instructor and Assistant Education Director at the Oxford Learning Centre in Guelph, where they taught various subjects to students in grades 1-12 and organized educational activities.

Heena Mistry, Ph.D., completed their education at Queen's University and the University of Guelph. Heena obtained their Bachelor's Degree from the University of Guelph in 2013, with a major in History and a minor in French Studies. In 2014, they pursued their Master of Arts (MA) at Queen's University, focusing on the South Asian Diaspora in Kenya and Indian Nationalism. Heena continued their studies at Queen's University, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Global History, with a specialization in South Asian Diaspora History, Nationalism, and the Abolition of Indenture, in 2019.
