Zachary Francks

Game Designer at Wizards of the Coast

Zachary Francks has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Zachary started their career in 2007 as the Creative Director and Founder of Mystery Parfait, an indie gaming partnership. Zachary initially focused on developing visual novels but later shifted to card games. During their time at Mystery Parfait, they designed and developed the stand-alone card game "Danmaku!!" based on the Touhou franchise. Zachary also managed freelance artists, directed the visual style and composition of illustrations, and handled logistics for print and shipment. Additionally, Zachary developed an original English language visual novel called "Flight of Twilight," where they managed the entire tech stack and authored a 700-page script.

In 2011, Zachary joined Disney Interactive as a Senior Game Designer, where they worked until 2016. Following that, they worked as a Senior Game Designers (Contract) at PopCap Games in 2017 and contributed to the game system design for Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, focusing on monetization systems, card set design, balance, and daily challenge puzzles.

In the same year, Zachary began working at Wizards of the Coast as a Game Designer. Unfortunately, no specific end date is mentioned for this role.

Zachary Francks began their education journey in 2000 at the University of Oklahoma, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. During their time at the university, they also studied Japanese as a part of their field of study. In 2003, they took part in a study abroad program at Ritsumeikan University, focusing on Japanese Studies for a year. After completing their undergraduate degree in 2005, Zachary further expanded their knowledge and skills by enrolling in the Digital Game Development program at Southern Methodist University in 2006. Zachary'sfield of study within this program was Level Design.
