Alex Whitworth

Vice President, Power & Renewables Research at Wood Mackenzie

Alex Whitworth has a diverse work experience in the energy and environmental sectors. Starting in 2005, Alex worked as an engineering consultant at Sinosphere Inc., where they focused on permitting industrial facilities in China. From 2006 to 2008, Alex served as the China Development Manager at the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET), where they successfully gained funding and support for the organization and collaborated on various research projects. In 2008, they briefly worked as a Clean Energy Researcher at The Climate Group. Alex then joined IHS Markit in 2012, initially as a Senior Analyst, and later becoming an Associate Director. During their time at IHS Markit, they specialized in power, gas, coal, and renewables, acting as a thought leader and collaborating with multinational energy companies. In 2015, Alex joined General Electric as a Senior Strategic Marketing Manager, focusing on the power vertical. After a few years, they moved to McKinsey & Company in 2018, working as a Specialist Consultant in the Energy Insights division. Currently, Alex is employed at Wood Mackenzie, where they hold the title of Head of Asia Pacific Power & Renewables Research and Vice President of Power & Renewables Research.

Alex Whitworth completed a Master's Degree in the School of Public and International Affairs - Science Technology and Environmental Policy Program at Princeton University from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, they obtained another Master's Degree in the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering - Waste-to-Energy/Combustion from Columbia Engineering between 2003 and 2005. Alex also holds a Chinese Language Certificate from Fu Jen Catholic University, where they studied from 2001 to 2003. They completed Dual Bachelor's Degrees in Resource Engineering (mining, hydrology, waste management) and Commerce (majoring in International Business) at The University of Auckland from 1996 to 2001. Before attending university, Alex Whitworth attended Westlake Boys High School from 1992 to 1995.
