Kim Madsen has a diverse work experience. In 2005, they worked as a Community Relations representative for the American Cancer Society, where they empowered and led volunteers to raise funds and support cancer patients. From 2014 to 2015, they served as a Health and Wellness Advisor at Thrifty White Pharmacy, focusing on promoting and implementing pharmacy services. Kim then joined Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging as a Lead Program Developer from 2015 to 2017, where they developed partnerships and delivered presentations to support older adults. In 2017, Kim established their own consulting firm, K. Madsen Consulting, providing strength-based coaching and organizational development services. Later, in 2019, they also took on the role of Chief Impact Officer at Woodland Centers, where they focused on community education, collaboration, and donor relations.

Kim Madsen has a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training from Argosy University, which was obtained from 2009 to 2011. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1996, Kim Madsen earned a Bachelor's degree in teaching with a focus on English and Speech Communications from the University of MN, Mankato. Kim Madsen also holds a certification as a Certified Strengths Coach from Gallup. In addition, Kim Madsen obtained a certification as a Master Trainer for Matter of Balance from Stanford in October 2015.
