Communications Lead, Nature at World Economic Forum

Gemma Parkes has accumulated extensive work experience in the field of PR and communications. Gemma'smost recent role was as the Communications Lead for the Ocean Action Agenda at the World Economic Forum, where they oversaw global communications and campaigning efforts for ocean conservation. Prior to that, Gemma founded and directed their own PR and communications consultancy, where they worked with various clients on strategic communications plans and campaigns. Gemma also served as the Head of PR and Artist Liaison at Oxfam, where they developed creative communication strategies to raise awareness for the organization's humanitarian and development work. Gemma has also worked at WWF International, where they held positions as the Executive Communications Manager and Ocean Communications Manager, responsible for media relations, profile-raising, and campaign coordination. Additionally, they have lectured at the University of Business and International Studies and held various communications roles at the European Environmental Bureau, Hill+Knowlton Strategies, International Olympic Committee, European Commission, and the Holburne Museum.

Gemma Parkes has a diverse education background. Gemma obtained a BA Honours in Modern Languages from the University of Exeter, graduating in 2000. In 2003, they pursued a Masters degree in International Politics from Paris-Sud University (Paris XI), and completed it in 2004. Furthermore, they obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists between 2003 and 2005.

Additionally, Gemma Parkes pursued several certificate programs. In 2004, they obtained a Certificate in News and Feature Writing from the National Union of Journalists. Later in 2007, they earned a Certificate in Oceanography from The Open University.

Outside of their formal education, Gemma Parkes also obtained a certification as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in November 2016.
