Marcel Boonaert

Marcel Boonaert has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Marcel is currently serving as the Global Director of Portfolio Management at World Fuel Services since 2022.

Prior to that, Marcel worked at Shell from 2017 to 2022, where they held the position of Innovation & Markets Senior Specialist Power and also worked as a Trading Front Office Consultant within the Shell Energy Europe. In this role, they focused on portfolio management, forecasting, costing benefits of renewable origination deals, and system development for data manipulation and automation.

From 2017 to 2019, Marcel worked as the Managing Director at Energy Procurement International Consultants Limited, developing and implementing energy procurement strategies for buyers while aiming to disrupt the consulting industry.

Marcel has also contributed to the Bearsted Parish Council as a Parish Councillor from 2017 to 2018.

Marcel has had significant experience at WINGAS GmbH from 2011 to 2017, holding the positions of Head of Trading & Portfolio Management and Portfolio Manager. In these roles, they were responsible for managing the UK energy position, developing growth plans, diversification strategies, and structuring long-term agreements for gas sourcing and supply.

Before that, Marcel worked at EIC as an Energy Trading Risk Manager from 2010 to 2011, involving risk management, trading services, and development of trading strategies.

Marcel's work experience also includes roles at Autogas Europe as an EMEA Energy Trader in 2010, at EDF Energy as an Energy Trader from 2005 to 2010, and at Marine Hotel as a Barman from 1995 to 1998.

Marcel Boonaert attended Damelin from 1996 to 1998, where they earned a degree in Hotel Management (HOM). Prior to that, they studied at Westering High from 1991 to 1995, focusing on English, Afrikaans, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and History, and obtained a Higher Grade Matriculation.
