Gillian Small

President, World Science U at World Science Festival

Gillian Small has a diverse work experience in the academic and research field. Gillian is currently serving as the President of World Science U at the World Science Festival since 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the University Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 2016 to 2022. Gillian also held the position of Vice Chancellor for Research at City University of New York from 2008 to 2016. Before that, they served as the University Dean for Research and Associate University Dean for Research at City University of New York from 2001 to 2008. Additionally, they worked as the Acting Research Compliance Officer at The City University of New York in 2003. Previously, they held academic positions as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Cell Biology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine from 1991 to 2001. Gillian also worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida from 1988 to 1991. Their career started as a Research Associate at Rockefeller University from 1985 to 1988 after completing their Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Cambridge from 1983 to 1985.

Gillian Small completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biosciences at Wolverhampton Polytechnic. Gillian then pursued further education at the same institution and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biosciences from 1979 to 1983.
