Staff Systems Engineer MBSE Lead at Woven Planet Holdings

Leon Starr has extensive experience in the field of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and has held various roles throughout their career. Leon is currently working at Model Integration, LLC as an MBSE Expert, Requirements Analyst, Executable Modeler, Speaker, and Writer, a position they have held since June 2017. In this role, they assist teams worldwide in building platform-independent, executable models of their systems.

Prior to this, Leon was a Staff Systems Engineer and MBSE Lead at Woven Planet Holdings starting in May 2022. Leon was responsible for leading the MBSE efforts and systems engineering at the company.

From November 2018 to May 2022, Leon worked at Toyota Research Institute as a Staff Systems Engineer and MBSE Lead. Here, they focused on modeling and specifying safe autonomous driving software using executable, platform-independent models and complex systems requirements analysis. Leon also continued to be active in speaking, writing, and teaching MBSE.

Before joining Toyota Research Institute, Leon worked at Saab AB as an Executable UML Mentor, Trainer, and Developer from June 2004 to November 2015. Leon served as the primary MBSE consultant for embedded and external combat fighter software and provided training, mentoring, and model development to a large group of engineers.

Leon also held various roles at other companies, including Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Ericsson, Caterpillar, Lockheed Martin, St. Jude Medical, and the US Navy. These roles primarily involved working as an Executable UML Developer, Consultant, and Trainer, where they developed and reviewed UML models for different systems, provided training and assistance to client developers, and played integral roles in reorganizing model development processes.

Throughout their career, Leon has authored several publications, including "Models to Code" and "Executable UML: How to Build Class Models." Leon is highly skilled in solving complex requirements and ensuring that models are on a direct path to efficient and reliable production code.

Leon Starr attended the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1979 to 1982, where they studied Computer Science. Leon did not obtain a degree during this time. In 2015, Leon obtained the certification of Duolingo French Fluency: Advanced (Estimated) from Duolingo.
