Matt Bergen

Matt Bergen has extensive work experience in the cybersecurity field. Matt is currently working as a Senior Corporate Security Engineer at Woven by Toyota since November 2020. Prior to that, they were a Senior Security Architect at Genesis Healthcare - GeneLife from January 2020 to November 2020.

Matt has also worked as a Security Team Manager at bitFlyer Group from March 2018 to December 2019. In this role, they designed and implemented the technical security program and budget for Japan and US offices and designed the global corporate network. Matt also supported audit requests for Japan, US, and EU offices.

Before that, they served as a Senior Security Engineer at Transaction Network Services from June 2016 to December 2017.

Matt's work experience also includes being an Assistant Manager - Asia Information Risk Management at Manulife (John Hancock) from January 2015 to October 2015. In this role, they managed a team and provided services to multiple countries, handled escalations, and coordinated global and regional projects.

Earlier in their career, Matt worked at Intellectual Ventures as a Security Engineer from December 2011 to February 2014 and as a Network Administrator from July 2007 to December 2011.

Matt Bergen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business General Management from Eastern Washington University, which they attended from 2008 to 2010. Prior to that, they completed an Associate of Arts degree in Network Services and Computing Systems at Bellevue College from 2006 to 2007. Matt then pursued a Master of Science degree in Professional Studies in Information Science, specializing in Information Assurance and Decision Support at Penn State University from 2011 to 2013. In 2014 and 2015, they studied Japanese Language at Waseda University. Matt completed their formal education at Newport High School, from where they graduated between 2001 and 2005.

In addition to their formal education, Matt has obtained several certifications. In 2012, they became a Certified Ethical Hacker v7 through EC-Council. In 2015, they earned the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)². Most recently, in 2022, Matt obtained the AWS Cloud Architect certification from Udacity, as well as the Astute AWS/Azure/GCP Cloud Red Team - It's Raining Shells! - 2022 Edition certification from Black Hat. Matt also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America in December 2005.
