Somanon Bhattacharya

Somanon Bhattacharya, Ph.D., has a diverse work experience in the field of microbiology and genetics. Somanon currently works as a Scientist at WuXi Advanced Therapies starting from 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Postdoctoral Associate at Stony Brook University from 2017 to 2022, where they conducted research on antifungal resistance and virulence in pathogenic yeasts. Somanon'swork resulted in several peer-reviewed research articles, review articles, and abstracts. Somanon also developed a high-throughput microfluidic technique to study aging in fungi.

Before their time at Stony Brook University, Bhattacharya worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 2011 to 2016. During this tenure, they developed a novel assay to identify drug resistance in Candida albicans strains and identified potential drug targets for antifungal drugs through genetic cloning and screening techniques. Somanon presented their research findings at multiple scientific conferences and received travel grant awards.

Furthermore, Bhattacharya worked as a Lab Consultant at the University of Missouri - St. Louis from 2009 to 2011, providing expertise and guidance in the laboratory. Somanon also worked as an Assistant Microbiologist at Rossari Biotech Ltd from 2008 to 2009.

Somanon Bhattacharya, Ph.D., has an extensive education history. From 2011 to 2016, they studied at the University of Missouri Kansas City, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell Biology and Biophysics. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2013, they pursued a Master's degree in Cell Biology and Molecular Biology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Additionally, from 2009 to 2011, Somanon earned another Master’s Degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis.

For their undergraduate education, Somanon attended the West Bengal University of Technology in Kolkata, where they obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology from 2004 to 2008.

In addition to their academic achievements, Somanon Bhattacharya has also obtained various certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. Notably, in 2022, they completed the VA ORD Biosecurity Training through the CITI Program. In 2021, they obtained an Online Teaching Certificate (OTC): Accelerated: Spring 2021 from Stony Brook University. In 2017, they completed the Responsible Conduct of Research in The Biomedical Sciences course offered by the CITI Program. Furthermore, they have acquired certifications such as Good Clinical Practice Course (US FDA focus) in 2021, IACUC - Investigators, Staff and Students in 2020, and Working with Mice in Research Settings in 2020, all from the CITI Program.
