Kai-Hsun Chen

Kai-Hsun Chen is a Member of Technical Staff at xAI since September 2025, focusing on pretraining infrastructure. Chen holds roles as an Apache Submarine PMC member and committer at The Apache Software Foundation since March 2020. Previously, a Software Engineer at Anyscale from August 2022 to August 2025, Chen contributed to KubeRay and Ray Core. As a Software Engineer Intern at Databricks in May to August 2022, work centered on the Spark Core team. Chen's earlier experience includes research assistant positions at Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and National Taiwan University, the latter yielding a Best Paper Award. Educational qualifications include a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University.
