Bernd Schächterle

Bernd S. is an experienced security professional with a strong background in operations security and safety management spanning over three decades. Currently serving as the Head of the Operations Security Section at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since January 2018, Bernd previously held significant roles at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, including Head of the Security & Safety Section and Deputy Chief. Earlier career highlights include contributions to the United Nations and the Special Court for Sierra Leone, as well as experience in law enforcement with Polizei Hamburg and military service in the Bundeswehr. Bernd S. holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, Governance and Police Science from Ruhr University Bochum, a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the University of St Andrews, and a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Hamburg.
