Earl Lawrence has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Earl currently holds the position of Chief Compliance and Quality Officer at Xwing, starting in 2022. Prior to this, they worked at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where they held multiple roles. From 2018 to 2022, they served as the Executive Director of the FAA's Aircraft Certification Service, responsible for various certification and airworthiness activities. From 2015 to 2018, they were the Director of the Office of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration, overseeing UAS integration efforts and serving as a point of contact for international aviation community. Earlier in their career at the FAA, from 2010 to 2015, they managed the Small Airplane Directorate, responsible for certification, regulations, and resource management. Before joining the FAA, they worked at EAA as the VP of Industry & Regulatory Affairs, overseeing government policy analysis for recreational aviation, from 1994 to 2010. Additionally, they served as the President of Algoma Sanitary District, overseeing the construction of a public water system for a community and spearheading a successful political campaign against a private corporation. Earl began their career at Rocketdyne as a Manufacturing Engineer from 1987 to 1994.

Earl Lawrence attended Northrop University from 1983 to 1990 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering Technology (BSAET). Earl has also acquired additional certifications such as Commercial Pilot (Multiengine Airplane, Instrument), FAA Airframe and Powerplane Mechanic, and FAA Inspection Authorization.
