Chief Nurse at Young Lives vs Cancer

Jeanette M Hawkins has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Jeanette M began their career in 1980 as a Shop Assistant at McGregor's Grocers, where they worked until 1983. Jeanette M then worked as a Quilt Machinist at Fogarty Furnishings Plc for a brief period before joining the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, HM Forces. During their time in the military, Jeanette served as a Nurse, starting as a Student Nurse and progressing to Staff Nurse roles in various specialties.

After completing their service in 1987, Jeanette joined the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, where they held multiple roles over the course of their 25-year tenure. Jeanette M started as a Paediatric Oncology Nurse and worked their way up to becoming a Lead Cancer Nurse/Advanced Nurse Practitioner. In 2012, Jeanette transitioned to the organization Young Lives vs Cancer, assuming the position of Chief Nurse. Jeanette M continued in this role until 2021 when they joined the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group as Chief Nurse. Most recently, Jeanette became a Member of the Board of Trustees at Supershoes in 2022.

Jeanette T Hawkins has a strong background in nursing education and practice. Jeanette M holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Advanced Nursing Practice from Birmingham City University, which they earned from 2000 to 2003. In 1991 to 1993, they obtained a Diploma in Professional Studies in Nursing from the same university.

From 1973 to 1986, Jeanette served in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps as a Registered Nurse General, gaining valuable experience in registered nursing. To specialize in sick children's nursing, they pursued a Registered Sick Children's Nurse degree from the Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1988 to 1989. Additionally, they completed the ENB 240 Paediatric Oncology Course at the Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1996.

Jeanette has also focused on nursing education, completing the ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing Course from the Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1996. Jeanette M has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to professional development, obtaining additional certifications such as Covid-19 - Psychological First Aid from FutureLearn and the SIOP Women Leaders certification from the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP.
