Cyrus Wadia

Cyrus Wadia is the current General Counsel at Yugabyte Inc. Prior to that, they were the Senior Director and Associate General Counsel at VMware from January 2020 to September 2020. In that role, they managed intellectual property (IP), privacy and data security, litigation, and mergers and acquisition (M&A) issues, including the integration of Pivotal Software into VMware.

From October 2013 to December 2019, Wadia served as the Vice President & Associate General Counsel at Pivotal Software, Inc. In that role, they led intellectual property (IP), privacy and data security, and strategic transactional attorney for publicly-traded enterprise cloud-native software and software development company, managing a global team of inside and outside counsel on a wide range of issues. Cyrus also had worldwide responsibility for Pivotal’s IP and open source strategies, processes, and compliance tools, building and managing Pivotal's patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios and IP tax strategy, and primary product counsel for 1,100-person R&D team.

Wadia has been responsible for significant corporate matters, including all M&A transactions and strategic partner relationships, and was a principal member of the core team that took Pivotal public in April 2018. Cyrus also created a global privacy and data security compliance program, including leading a cross-functional team in achieving GDPR compliance in 2018. Cyrus also instituted processes, templates, policies, playbooks and workflows for outbound and inbound licensing, handling significant commercial negotiations which enabled commercial team’s revenue growth from $42M in Year 1 to $659M at the time of IPO. Cyrus has also managed and resolved complex intellectual property litigation and disputes. Cyrus is also the primary legal support for Pivotal's partnership program and ISV/SI ecosystem management, marketing and communications, software, and services teams.

Cyrus Wadia has a J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. in Political Science/Theirtory from UC San Diego. Cyrus also has certification from IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPPUS).
